Did you know that the first soccer ball was made of a human head?
Hello Mrs. Mellenthin and grade 4 my name is ollie and I’m speaking to you about the history of soccer.
My three main points are the history, kit and balls, and the game.
Have you ever wondered what the first form of soccer was? If you said it was English forms then you’re wrong that’s right you’re wrong. Soccer forms actually started in… Mayan times, they played a ball game that was a mix of soccer and basketball. The game’s goal was to score in two small hoops on each side of the court. This game is callllllllllllllllllllled pok-a-tok which means ball game in the Mayan language. This game was a very hard game and if you lost you would be sacrificed to the Mayan gods. This is how all soccer started. fast forward to Ancient China is where soccer got more like the real thing. This game was more like freestyle than normal soccer. This was the root of freestyling. This game was only for the rich people to play. This game is callllllllllllllllled Cuju or Ts’u-chü. The losers were beheaded and the winners were treated to a feast. By this point, soccer had progressed so far. Now on to the start of modern soccer in England. Ahh modern soccer, no killing just the game!
Let’s move on to Kits kits have changed a lot from the 1900s to – the 2000s. In the 1900s shorts and shirts were long. In the 1950s shirts they have resembled rugby shirts. By the 1970s shorts were shorter and shirts slim-fitting. Short lengths continued to get shorter from decade to decade by the 1980s they were so short. Today shorts are mid-length and shirts are bagy. Did you know that most teams have three or more kits?
Now onto the ball. The Mayans used a ball that was a head! Yeah, a head! The Chinese used a ball that was made of animal skin and wood. The French used a ball made of beard hair and cork. The first modern soccer ball was created by Charles Goodyear aka the creator of rubber. It had laces on the top and the reason the ball was used was that it did not hold water; this is the ball that was used up until the 1960s. Then came the first normal-looking ball in the 1970s like the Telstar. This was the World Cup ball and had the white and black hexagons on it. In 2010 one of the most iconic balls was used. Did you guess it was a…. drum roll, please? The Jabulani! This ball was so famous because it was used in the World Cup and it has so many remakes and so many scam versions like the Chaos Jabulani and much more. It is also one of the most expensive soccer balls in the world. It can range from 1 to 5 thousand dollars. The ball used in the 2022 World Cup was the Rihla. This ball is the highest-tech ball. It tells you if it is offside, how fast it goes, and if it’s a handball!
Finally, on to my favorite part…Who are the GOATS? ( By the way, it stands for the greatest of all time). First, let me talk about players…Verratti? Immobile? Maldini? Haha, you guessed it I’m an Italy supporter on to the real GOATS you might say Messi Ronaldo Pele Maradona in case you didn’t realize those are all forwards what about mid and de? let’s see if you know the best de and mids: Maldini, Beckenbauer, Biresi, Nesta, Moore, Carlos, Zidane, De Bruyne, Kroos, and more.
These players are strong and good at making plays. If I were to choose 3 players in each position it would be the marvelous Messi, Zippy Zidane, and the miraculous Maldini. Next, I want to talk about teams, oh teams! Inter Milan is so good there are so many parts of a team that is a carousel like defense chemistry, attacking and midfield. Most teams have a weak and a strong point city that has the best chemistry and ok attacking. Inter has good defending, good chemistry, and ok attacking. The Champions League is a tournament that has the top 1 to 4 teams in the country. It is the biggest tournament in all of Europe and has teams like Real Madrid, Bayern, Barcelona, Manchester United, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and more. There are so many teams and they are all so good. In total, there are nearly 4,000 teams and 240 million registered players. Now, I bet you can name three soccer teams. Leagues leagues are so important that if there were no leagues Manchester City and Bayern would be in the same leagues and there would be a bujilin teams from one not league in the Champions League. That is why most professional leagues are in one whole country or two. An example is the Premier League in one country, England. The MLS is an example of a two-country league USA and Canada. Some of the major leagues in the world are La Liga, the Serie A, the Championship, League 1 the Bundesliga, the Premier League, and more. Can you take three teams out of this, great!
You may have wondered why I have written this much about soccer. To be true, I am only doing this because of how much I love it, and I am so happy that I got to look into this and share it with you all. Hope you are much more educated in soccer and that next time you are walking past a soccer field go and play!

igneos rock
Igneous rock
Ollie and Jake are making the volcano.
Miko and Adam are doing the research.
- A geologist studies all rock.
- Rocks are not the same as minerals.
- There are three types of rocks
- The three types of rocks are sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks, and igneous rocks.
- A sedimentary rock is formed from deposits of pre-existing rocks.
- Metamorphic rocks are formed when liquid magma or lava is cooled and is hardened.
- Igneous rocks are formed when hot, molten rock crystallizes and solidifies.
Igneous rocks are “fire born”. They are made from the cooling and solidifying of molten. There are two main types of igneous rock.
- Intrusive (plutonic) rocks
- Extrusive (volcanic) rocks
Intrusive (plutonic) rocks
Plutonic rocks are rocks that are formed in the earth and rocks formed when magma cools and solidifies below the earth’s surface. They are most commonly found in tectonic settings.
Volcanic rock
Extrusive igneous rocks erupt onto the surface or into the atmosphere. Extrusive igneous rocks are also called volcanic rocks – named for Vulcan, the Roman god of fire. Volcanic rocks are crystal-sized and have a very fine-grained or glassy groundmass that formed because of fast cooling at the time of eruption.
Volcanic rocks are erupted as lava flows or domes during nonexplosive eruptions. Pyroclastic rocks are made of volcanic ash and other volcanic rocks. The term pyroclastic means fire broken in Greek
The inside of the volcano looks like this!
The inside of a volcano has a magma chamber, a conduit, a sill, a vent, a side vent, lava flow, a crater, ash cloud and ash fall.
my project!
WWW EBI
I think that we did the research well. but for the EBI, I think that we could have done better with the build. I liked the research because it had built points and a lot of different sections like the plutonic and volcanic rocks. that is what we did well. in EBI and the build we did the half volcano pretty well but not the full one as you can see above. I love choice learning because we can make anything we want about rocks and minerals.
